The Clarins brand has been around for over 50 years. Its history began already in the year 1954 in Paris, France. The Frenchman, as the medical student, Jacques Courtin-Clarins had a beauty Institute/SPA where he developed massage oils based on essential oils. He was specialized in the oils and their abilities to tighten the skin so he decided to improve and streamline the skin tightening massage. He developed an oil with this characteristic on the advice of his customers and this was the beginning of the relationship that the brand Clarins today stands for, namely that there should be trust and dialogue between the developer of the skincare product in question and its customers. Clarins original idea was to make beauty more natural and genuine with the message "It's about you" to its customers.
Jacques Courtin Clarins had a motto; "Do more, make it better and have fun when you do it". Thanks to this dedication and commitment, the Beauty Institute in Paris became internationally renowned and the Clarins brand in turn became the world leader in cosmetics, skincare, makeup, perfume and fashion.
In 1962, Jacques Courtin-Clarins created its first body Shaping Cream, a product that reduces cellulite and makes body contours and shapes sharper. In the year 1968, Clarins began producing products containing 100% pure plant extracts (oils) that were sold in perfume shops.
In 1974, Jacques Courtin-Clarins son Christian began to be involved in family activities and became the brand Clarins International spokesperson. He also became an important part of Clarins distribution of its products worldwide.
In 1984, Clarins was listed on the Paris stock Exchange. This was seen as a great success and a good opportunity for the group to grow and develop.

In 2002, Clarins developed its product range with skin care products for men, ClarinsMen.
In the year 2008, Christian and Oliver Courtin-Clarins made a bid for the group, which led to the Clarinskoncernen being delisted from the Paris stock Exchange. The brothers Oliver and Christian Courtin-Clarins decided to go against the trends in the market and put a long-term vision for Clarins. According to them, it was important to affirm the group's independence and sustainability, which has been well received by Clarins consumers.
Clarins continues to live up to its original vision and the group has its own laboratories and research and development centers. Clarins products are developed in these laboratories. All Clarins products are produced in France and exported to 90% overseas worldwide.
